throwing a stone into the lake

[It's been a few days since. Since King Regis had called for him to talk to him in his office. Privately. It's not like it never happened before, Ignis was close to the king due to Noctis, that's why there were some sensitive matters that had to be discussed privately. It happened before. But it never shook him like this.

The news were never about Noctis in such a cruel way.

Ignis remembers that he asked why he had to know about it. It was something about seeing more clear. Or some bullshit like that. He remembers leaving the royal office, fuming. Thinking that how come they know about Noct's fate and they still have to just sit around and wait for it to happen? Is this not a prank?

Of course, Ignis knows it's not a prank, it's too cruel for that. His anger slowly turns into something less intense, yet more choking. It costs him precious sleeping hours, even if he doesn't have much of those anyway. He works for Noctis, but he limits his visits to his apartment lately. He just can't bear to look at him without feeling his chest wanting to burst. Everything starts to feel like a fever dream after a few days and Ignis admits it's not. good. He's slowly losing his mind as he's trying to swallow down this bitter pill.

Ignis trains more than he usually would, in the vain hope that he'd exhaust himself enough to just drop unconscious for a few days and waking up healed. Yet, the so waited  result would never come; his mind would still keep him up at night, and make the days difficult. This time too, his body is tired, but his mind is still heavy with dread and grief for something that hadn't happened yet. Carrying that disappointment, Ignis takes his towel and attempts to storm out of the training room, just to bump into someone.]

Ah, Gladio.

[Ignis takes a step back to let the Amicitia in and then go on his business, yet he finds his feet unable to move from there.]

Late afternoon training?

[The last thing Ignis wants is a small talk, yet it's still better than just standing there, willing his body to move and go home and maybe get drunk too.]

at the end of it all

[It happened in the period of taking a breath, and letting it out. Ignis isn't even sure what he was doing before. Was he sleeping? Reading? Though lately he also enjoyed to just sit in the Citadel's garden and enjoy the feel of the sunlight on his face. It was turning into spring again...

Either way, Ignis is sure he definitely wasn't anywhere near a train station. Especially not a strange looking as this one. For some reason, he'd gotten a bit of wary of trains and train stations. Though as he looks around he realizes many other things.

His vision. It's back. He can see things, yet it doesn't feel like he is truly seeing them. It's more like, they are there for him to experience and not to see. In a moment, everything becomes clear.

This is the end, the beginning of the end. He's finally...

Ignis can't help to let out a bit of a relieved breath. They had lost Prompto early on, due to his body not being able to go on for much longer because of his nature. Gladio went just a few years ago and it hit Ignis a bit more than he thought it would. The last few years were... cruel. In the softest, loneliest way possible. It made Ignis wish sometimes that he died somewhere in battle, so he doesn't have to go through all this.

He looks down at his hands, noting how they look so young. They look the same way when he set out on another journey to escort a prince to his wedding. It makes Ignis avert his gaze, up at the blank departure board, hoping something will appear there, and that the train will have a destination before he would board it.

As he turns his head however, he spots someone not far from him. The sight is just so shocking at Ignis barely wants to believe his eyes.]

after the fall

[Ignis has only a little recollection of what happened. Not of the fine details, but he knows what happened. He knows what he did and why. He prayed for forgiveness, he remembers that one clearly.

He prayed for forgiveness, that Noctis will understand that he had no other way. He prayed, that if he died, Noctis would understand. He prayed that if he meets His Highness King Regis in the afterlife, he would forgive him too for leaving his son alone.

Waking up in pain that ran deeper than his body, with one of his senses robbed of him, with a ringing in his ear was the thing that scared Ignis the most about it all. Not the fight itself, but that he still has Noctis to protect and he may not be able to.

He heard the way Gladio's voice deepened as he updated him about the situation. He heard the way Prompto's voice broke every time he was trying to talk to him. Ignis hated both, because it reminded him how all of them were so scared. So scared. But no one would say a word about it. That's why he took it upon himself to offer Noctis, and with that the others too, to stop this all. Stop the journey, stop this madness and go home. Or escape.

And when Noctis refused, Ignis had never been more proud of him. It made everything worth it, it showed that Noctis is ready. Yet, as a sick twist of fate, Ignis felt he himself isn't. So when he walked out of Noctis' room after that conversation, he never wanted to return. He didn't want Noctis to be reminded of what happened, he already had a lot to deal with by losing Lady Lunafreya too. And Ignis knew how he would feel about seeing him injured too. Maybe it was also vanity on Ignis' part. Feeling the scars on his face, he wondered just how ugly they are. It truly mustn't be a sight anyone would want to look at. But he'll check them when he has his vision back...

They aren't ready to go on. They all need to heal and rest and Altissia is letting them stay that little time they need. It also means there are no hunts, no driving, no busy days, just waiting and supposedly healing. Ignis hates it. It leaves too much time to think. A few times he asked Prompto to help him walk to the market, but he came back with more tension than he left with.

The worst thing, however, that Ignis realized he started to avoid Noctis. He was usually by his side when he would be sleeping, all the other times he asked Gladio or even Prompto to keep vigil. Those times he'd sit on the sofa outside the hotel room and listen quietly to the radio if there's any news about the Empire, or if the hunters have any updates. Just like he does now.]

another slave!AU thread

There were a few occasions in Ignis' life when he was reminded just how low he was in the food chain. The first one sometime in his teenage years when he thought he could change his fate of being a slave and run away. The punishment he's gotten after that made him wear glasses for the rest of his life too. As a kind of reminder, he thought every time he was cleaning his glasses. It's a miracle he didn't go blind after that torture.

After that he never tried to escape. But his pride was still too much for his masters to bear. His will to live, his will to not be considered just a tool was sometimes too much for a few people to bear. He changed masters many times. Took on many skills. And he was also more informed about the world than most slaves. The only thing that would give away that he's not a free individual was the cuffs around his wrists all slaves had to wear.

Ignis took pride in his skills, in his talent to adapt and that he could never be beaten down, no matter how cruel his masters were.

Though no matter how difficult life as a slave was, when he was sold to the Emperor's court, it had become worse. Apparently his latest master wasn't too impressed with him after he bit him... Ignis wasn't exactly a slave for pleasures of the body, but after how they handled him when he arrived to the royal court he had the suspicion his set of tasks in his papers were drastically changed.

Before the royal court he was mostly used as a servant, running the household, cooking and occasionally warming the bed if it was requested. It's not like he could have said no. But after that, he was treated like he was born to be on his knees. It's been the most frustrating, and terribly challenging. It's been only a few weeks, though, because the next thing he knew is that he's being shipped away all the way to Lucis. No one told him what was happening, what was going to happen, he didn't spend too much time in the royal court to catch up with news yet.

The travel was long and annoying and apparently no one cared if he would arrive in one piece, despite that he was supposed to be one of the gifts Niflheim presented for Lucis. That was yet another reminder of what he was here: just an object.

All the gifts, including Ignis (dolled up with a neat suit, of course, though his hands are still in cuffs), have been brought into a room, where they were displayed. Ignis swallows; he's thirsty and his head hurts, and no matter how much he was denying it, he's also scared. He knows little about Lucis' customs after all. The only thing he knows about Lucis is how the king and the prince looks...

White Day stargazing

Thank you for agreeing to humor me, on very short notice, too.

[Ignis starts as he opens the door of the car for Gladio. If he may appear sheepish it's because of Gladio's imagination. Certainly.

While Ignis could arrange a perfect day for their Valentine's Day date, he seemed to have less luck with their White Day date. He started the arrangement just like usual and it was going well, because he's learned to manipulate his schedules how he wanted, but there are still things he can't count in. People are whimsical, people get sick, others also want to go on dates... probably. So even with weeks long of arranging, Ignis' plans collapsed right on White Day. He hoped to have a clear afternoon to bring Gladio to that bookshop he found, then check out a pastry place he heard good things about, but all that had to be put on hold for the day due to emergency meetings, and some last minute hold-up with Noctis.

Or so Ignis has thought.

Maybe it won't exactly be a full blown date like they planned, but maybe he can still save the day. So he tried if Gladio is still available at the evening and thankfully he said yes.]

And I apologize it has to be like this...

V-day with a Shield and a book | [personal profile] blkwings

[ To be honest, Ignis started arranging his Valentine's day way before Gladio asked him for a date. To get a few hours off from his busy schedule it needed excessive rearrangements, and in a few cases, bribing too. Ignis figured if the man wouldn't ask him, he'd signal his wish in time for him. Thankfully, he could trust Gladio to deliver a pretty smooth request for a Valentine's day date, to which Ignis could bravely say yes.

It didn't mean Ignis wasn't busy that day. He prepared some cards and obligatory chocolate Noctis can give to a few people. Ignis also prepared a batch he spiced up a little for an important soon to be Shield too.

Preparations were easy in some way, but the actual date stroke Ignis with a strange emotion. Something akin to unease, though not entirely in the wrong way.

It did help his nerves a little that he was the one driving them, even if Gladio insisted it would be faster if he drove. But it gave them something to focus on during it and so Ignis didn't have to just smile to himself all the time like a fool. Gladio navigated them to a part of the city Ignis wasn't too familiar with. Which was exciting.

He gets out of the car, looking around as he's setting his shirt and vest he is wearing for this occasion, with slacks and too expensive shoes. They are far from the Citadel, but not too far, which is good. Even with all the arrangements, he could still be called to assist Noctis. Both of them, actually. ]

Show me the way, then.

[ One thing about being in a different part of Crown City however, is that Ignis can hold out his hand for Gladio to take and people won't bat an eye. Would he try that near the Citadel, hell would get lose. ]
